Michelle Fogarty

Michelle Fogarty is an Australian painter who transitioned to a full-time practice, after leaving her teaching career to follow her calling. She has exhibited widely across Australia and her work is held in private collections internationally. Michelle’s work explores the quiet narrative held within treasured objects and carefully arranged tablescapes. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she builds textured surfaces through layers of paint that are repeatedly applied, rubbed back and drawn into. Central to Michelle’s practice is the balance between clarity and ambiguity-knowing what to bring into focus and what to leave obscured.
