Clare Dubina

Born in the UK in 1977, Clare Dubina is a Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Since graduating in 2001, Dubina’s career has traversed roles in fashion photography and visual merchandising. In 2020, she redirected her focus to painting and ceramics, fully committing to her art practice.

Dubina’s work, which explores the female form as an evolving source of inspiration, has led to collaborations with prominent Australian brands such as Viktoria & Woods, Tigmi Trading, and Bed Threads. Her art has also been featured in respected publications like Hunter & Folk and The Design Files. In 2023, she participated in two duo shows and several group exhibitions, marking her current solo exhibition as a significant milestone. Her pieces are part of private collections in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Dubina’s paintings are noted for their expressive, voluptuous forms rendered in warm, earthy tones and deep jewel greens, punctuated by pastel highlights. Her approach blends graphic flatness with nuanced shading, creating a tactile, sensual quality. “I aim to convey the essence of femininity by capturing strength, vulnerability, and complexity through a fusion of colour, line, and design,” Dubina explains.

Her new series, ‘Time Will Tell,’ emerged from an intuitive, open-ended process. “Guided by the mantra ‘Time will tell,’ I allowed the pieces to evolve organically rather than focusing on completion,” she notes. This approach underscores Dubina’s belief in the power of unbridled instinct and emotional resonance over the constraints of time.
