Since her breakout showing as a finalist in two consecutive editions of the National Emerging Art Prize (NEAP), Cameilia Edwards has established herself as a singular, ascendant voice in Australian painting, with her luminous botanical works presented across two sold-out solo exhibitions at our Berrima gallery. We are thrilled to welcome Edwards as a represented artist and invite collectors to sign up for first access to her forthcoming projects across our gallery network.
Working from images lensed at golden hour, Edwards brings delicate, halcyon glimpses of nature to life with meticulous, almost photorealist precision. Untamed grasses, wildflowers and other flora are momentarily set aglow and captured in magnificent bursts of luminosity. “The fragility of grasses – in all their sun-drenched, still potency as seed carriers – has been a singular focus of Edwards’s practice,” writes our galleries’ Chairman and Director, Michael Reid OAM.
“Unsurprising, from one of regional Australia. Unsurprising, from one who can see glimpsed aspects of beauty amid the full field of life. Cameilia, a NEAP finalist in 2024 and 2025, is proof of the power of quiet, roaring. As one who lives in regional Australia myself, I – together with my colleagues – welcome her with considerable anticipation.”
Beyond NEAP, Edwards has been selected for the Lethbridge Small Scale Art Prize and was awarded the 2020 Inverell Shire Council Acquisition Prize. She will next appear in group shows at Michael Reid Northern Beaches and Murrurundi.
