Tara Price

Tara Price is an Australian painter whose practice centres on the physical and sensory experience of landscape. Working in thickly layered impasto, she builds her surfaces through assertive, expressive brushwork that mirrors the density and movement of the natural world. Rather than describing a scene from a distance, Price leans into texture — the grain of rock, the press of foliage, the shifting weight of earth and water — allowing colour and gesture to carry the force of place.

In the two works presented here, that commitment to material presence is unmistakable. Strata of ochre and ironstone cut across one canvas in ridged bands of paint, while in the other, foliage gathers in tightly worked passages of green and yellow, the surface almost sculptural in its depth. As the artist notes, “Painting is more than capturing a place — it’s about conveying the experience of being there. The textures of rock, sand and water, the rhythms of trees and grass, the constant movement of the land.”
