Uncertain Truths

We are delighted to announce the forthcoming exhibition in the ground floor gallery at Michael Reid Southern Highlands: ‘Uncertain Truths,’ by Sydney-based photographer Scott Perkins. Opening in late June, ‘Uncertain Truths’ marks Perkins’ return to Berrima following his acclaimed 2023 solo exhibition, ‘Understory’.

Illuminated within bespoke, architecturally conceived lightbox displays and framed in natural timber, Perkins’ landscapes are charged with brooding poeticism and elemental drama. Through extraordinary technical finesse, he renders the natural world with captivating nuance.

“I see photography drawing inspiration from and pushing the boundaries of all the other disciplines,” says Perkins, who often works in an ultra-refined, Sugimoto-like reductionist register to transform nature scenes into transcendent works of minimalist poetry.

‘Uncertain Truths’ at Michael Reid Southern Highlands will introduce a commanding new aspect of Perkins’ visual lexicon: densely layered forest scenes rendered in austere monochrome. Heavy with foliage and atmosphere, these works represent some of the most compositionally intricate and emotionally resonant of Perkins’ career.
