Gurka’wuy (7748-24), 2024
etched on found metal
60 x 60 cm
Working from the Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre in Yirrkala, Gaypalani Wanambi is the leading female practitioner within the Found movement, in which roadside material gleaned on Country is reimagined for intricately detailed works of art. Continuing the legacy of her father, the renowned Mr Wanambi, her pieces pay tribute to the honey-hunting Wuyal. Tiny Dawurr (honey bees) are repeated across the cut-metal surface of her work, forming glittering undulations.
