“Satin Bower Birds spend an awful lot of time fussing over their bowers ensuring that everything is perfect, moving their collected treasures until they are in the perfect position, much like interior designers. So I thought they would make perfect bonsai artisans, a little snip here a little snip there until the shape is exactly right. These two male bower birds are waiting patiently for the lovely lady to decide which blue spruce in a Spode footbath has won her approval, the Tower design or the Blue Italian. I think she has made her decision… Interesting to note, this artist was also painting these bonsais like the designers themselves… adding leaves rather than subtracting… a little leaf here, a little leaf there, step back, looking at it critically, step forward a little touch up here, a little touch up there…”
